For 15 years Courtney has held senior positions in global Fortune 500 consulting firms KPMG, Deloitte and Bearing Point. Luncheon Topic: “The Magic of a New Beginning and a Fresh Start”

Women are limited by the paradigms we work and think in, the assumptions about who we are and what we do, and the environment we live in. We seldom ask “What am I doing for me? What am I getting out of my work? What drives my life”?
People tend to give up what they believe in and go towards security and safety.
“State of Grace” = when you have a great talent and you intersect it with what you do. This cannot be counterfeited.
Three questions you should be asking:
1) Are you surrounded by people who believe in you?
2) Are you where you want to be?
3) Are you doing what you love?
Four Ways to Change:
1) Find your “Core Genius”. Your “core genius” is something you do better than just about everyone else you know. It is the “first cousin” to the “State of Grace”. Most people don’t appreciate what they bring to the table.
2) Practice the “Rule of 5”. Identify a primary goal, and do 5 thinks every day that will get you closer to your goal (“massive action gives you massive results”). Keller Williams developed the following plan of action, which proved to be very effective for them. Every week a salesperson would do:
a) 5 in-person meetings
b) 10 calls
c) 15 thank yous
d) 5 property reviews
3) Participate in “Mastermind” groups. There are Four “States” of action:
a) Waiting (resignation, procrastination, indecision).
b) Striving (a lot of trying but not a lot of getting).
c) Wanting (discontent and possible desperation).
d) Having (state of relaxation, belief that everything is “going to turn out ok”).
A “mastermind group” is a group of 5 or 6 people working together to “have each other’s back”. The basic philosophy is that more can be achieved in less time when people work together. Group topics can be personal or professional, but each member must be comfortable with telling the truth and being honest.
4) Create a “Mindset”. There is a belief in our culture that “success leads to happiness”. A Harvard study showed that happiness actually ends when you accomplish a goal. The “mindset” needs to be that happiness comes first. Those who are in a “happy state” are more “successful”. They have the “happiness advantage”, which leads to positive social support, an effective ability to deal with stress, and an overall positive outlook.

“Do the Work
Our enemy is not lack of preparation; it’s not the difficulty of the project, or the state of the marketplace or the emptiness of our bank account.
The enemy is resistance.
The enemy is our chattering brain, which, if we give it so much as a nanosecond, will start producing excuses, alibis, transparent self-justifications and a million reasons why he can’t/shouldn’t/won’t do what we know we need to do.
